QPTC member Joe Dashley is presently on duty with the FCDO [Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office] in Eritrea, East Africa.
It didn’t take Joe too long to find somewhere to play tennis!
“While I have been here I have been a member of a really fantastic community tennis club, Sembel Tennis Club,” writes Joe. “I’ve been playing four or five times a week, and benefitting from regular lessons with the excellent club coach. The club does a great job coaching young Eritreans – on weekends there are dozens of young children having large group lessons, as well as smaller groups for the more advanced players – and they now have a really strong crop of young players coming through.
“They invest lots of time and energy keeping the clay courts in a playable condition, and sourcing and funding sufficient racquets and balls for the large groups of children that the clubs coach. I would love to be able, with the help of QPTC, to support their efforts to continue coaching the next generation of Eritrean tennis players!”
Joe is planning a fundraiser in the spring at Queens Park Tennis Club. Do get in touch if you’re able to help.
