Building works to extend and enhance the clubhouse at Queens Park Tennis Club are scheduled to start in the second week of May 2022.
The project includes the construction of a new external toilet on the west (park) side, and storage extension on the east (East Drive) side. Once completed, members will be able to use the external loo (wheelchair accessible) while the clubhouse is closed, or in use.
There will be some disruption on site, but members will continue to have access to the existing clubhouse toilets and kitchen in the normal way. The work will not interfere or obstruct tennis activity on court.
Mel Bowden explains: “The extension nearest the ramp (East Drive) will create a much needed store room, and will include a new power intake area, replacing the current unit which is most of 50 years old. UK Power networks will install a new 3 phase supply from East Drive which will provide sufficient power for LED lighting on all four upper courts. There is presently only enough for two courts.
“Both extensions will be constructed at the same time in order to minimum disruption for members.”
Thanks to club member Jacob Chadwick, who completed the architectural plans, and to QPTC directors Mel Bowden and Steve Davies for leading the project. The Queens Park Tennis Club pavilion was built in 1930.
