Evelin Wins Parks Cup Title
Evelin Potocnik won the Parks Cup Ladies singles title on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Marlou Schellevis.
Evelin, who was unseeded, is the first Parks Cup winner from Queens for 28 years, the last being Helen Mitchell, who won the same title in 1990, and Andy Marshall, who won the mens doubles that same year.
Mick O’Brien, who won the Parks Cup mixed doubles title with Denise Taylor in 1989, was among the watching spectators. The last mens singles champion from Queens was Andrew Clarke, winner in 1982, 1983 & 1984.
Matt Hassell (Queens), with Sarah Brooking (King Alfred) finished runner up in the mixed doubles. Matt & Sarah defeated Sam Waller-Carr and Katie Johnson in two sets in the semi-final, played the previous evening.
Seb Puga (Dyke) retained his mens single title 6-1, 6-0 against five times winner Greg Daubney (Saltdean). Full results below.
Many thanks to Claire Anderson for her brilliant tournament organisation, and for King Alfred’s for hosting the event. The cakes were amazing.
There will be more photos to follow, posted on the Parks League website.
